The Geological Institute, Department of Geology, Presidency University successfully organized the 2nd Prof. A. K. Saha Memorial Lecture.
The event was held on Wednesday, 13 May 2026, at 12:00 PM (IST) at P.C. Mahalanobis Hall, Presidency University, Kolkata, and featured a lecture by Dr. Vineet Kumar Gahalaut, Director, Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Dehradun, titled "Crustal deformation and strain rate of the Indian plate."
The lecture witnessed the enthusiastic participation of alumni, faculty members, researchers, and students, making it a memorable academic event in honour of the enduring legacy of Prof. Ajit Kumar Saha.

The Geological Institute, Presidency University, successfully hosted its 102nd Annual General Meeting on 23 December 2025. The event was graced by our Guest of Honour, Prof. Pinaki Sar (Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology, IIT Kharagpur), along with esteemed alumnus Prof. Dhrubajyoti Mukhopadhyay, faculty members, alumni, researchers, and students.
The gathering observed a minute of silence in memory of our dear alumnus, Arpan Purkait, whose untimely demise at such a young age left an irreplaceable void in our Geological Institute family.
The 65th edition of Bhu Vidya was released, and the outgoing 2024–25 committee formally handed over responsibilities to the 2025–26 committee. Prof. Pinaki Sar delivered an insightful lecture titled "Enigma of the Deep Life in Continental Crust." We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all attendees for their support and participation, making the event a resounding success.

The Geological Institute successfully organized the 49th Professor S. Ray Memorial Lecture on 9th September 2025 at the Old Lecture Theatre, Department of Geology, Presidency University, Kolkata.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Prof. Pradip Kumar Sikdar, Professor of Water Resources Management, IISWBM, Kolkata, for delivering an insightful and thought-provoking lecture on “Land subsidence caused by groundwater withdrawal in urban areas”. His address enriched the academic gathering with valuable perspectives on a pressing environmental concern.

In commemoration of the 100th birth anniversary of our revered Prof. Ajit Kumar Saha (1925–1997), the Geological Institute, Department of Geology, Presidency University, organized the "Prof. A. K. Saha Memorial Lecture".
The event was held on Wednesday, 14 May 2025 at 4:00 PM at Derozio Hall, Presidency University, Kolkata, and featured a lecture by Prof. Saibal Gupta from IIT Kharagpur, titled "Continents, water, life... on Earth and beyond – the geologists' story".
On this day, the Geological Institute, Presidency University, Kolkata hosted a lecture on "Trace Element Systematics and Chronological Insights into High Grade Garnets" by Mr. Ankan Bhattacharyya, a distinguished alumnus of the Department of Geology, Presidency University, who is currently pursuing his doctoral studies at the Institute of Geological Sciences, University of Bern, Switzerland. Following the lecture, a discussion session was held, focusing on PhD research and academic opportunities.

On 3rd January 2025, the Geological Institute, Presidency University, Kolkata hosted a lecture on "The Chronicles of the Archaean Eon" by Dr. Jaganmoy Jodder, a distinguished alumnus of our Department. The lecture was very insightful and inspiring for the audience.

The Geological Institute, Presidency University, successfully hosted its 101st Annual General Meeting on December 27, 2024. The event was graced by esteemed guests, including Prof. Arunabha Majumdar and Prof. Dhrubajyoti Mukhopadhyay, along with faculty, alumni, and students. The 64th edition of Bhu Vidya was released, dedicated to Prof. Ajit Kumar Saha. The outgoing committee passed responsibilities to the 2024-25 committee. Prof. Majumdar delivered an insightful lecture on "Public Water Supply – Water Conservation and Utilisation: Issues and Challenges". We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all attendees for their support, making the event a resounding success.
